  • Our Serama Chicks: Hand-Raised in Vermont with Heart & Soul

Here at Sugar Feather Farm, our Serama chicks—affectionately called our teacup chickens—are the tiniest treasures in our flock. Often known as mini bantams, micro bantams, or kiki riki chickens, these Malaysian beauties are a featherweight wonder, rarely weighing over 1 lb. Picture a rooster the size of a pigeon, puffed up with charm and strutting like he rules the roost—these are our Seramas! As a higher-demand specialty on our Vermont farm, we raise these petite marvels with extra love and know-how, excited to share their vibrant colors and big personalities with you.

    • Small but Mighty: Roosters hit pigeon-size, with hens even tinier—perfect as micro bantam pets or for cozy coops.

    • A Rainbow of Feathers: With over 2,000 color combos, every teacup chicken hatch is a delight—frizzle, silked, or smooth, they’re little works of art.

    • Farm Favorites: Fed Non-GMO goodness, Marek’s vaccinated, and raised with heart, they’re pure Sugar Feather magic.

    • Fragile & Feathered: Our Serama chicks need a cozy start, so we ship or offer pickup at 3 weeks minimum. In winter, these tropical gems may need extra warmth—think heat sources if it dips below 40°F. We’ve got fully feathered options and hatching eggs for shipping too!

  • We recommend starting baby chicks out with Sugar Feather Farm chick starter for the first 3 weeks, then switch to our Chicken Grower. Use the Grower Feed until they hit maturation (which is when they start to lay) then switch to Sugar Feather Farm Adult Feed.

We highly recommend using the Oil of Oregano in their water daily as a supplement to aid with digestion and overall health.

  • Seramas originated in Malaysia, where they are the number one house pet, outnumbering dogs and cats. The rooster crow is adorable! Seramas were brought to the USA in 2001, so they are relatively new to the USA!

The complete ancestry of the Serama is uncertain and there are many claims and myths regarding it’s origin. Some theories date as far back to the 1600s and to the Thai King Sri Rama, although there is no documented evidence to prove this. The creator of the modern Serama bantam is Wee Yean Een. In 1971 he began a breeding program that would see Ayam Kapans crossed with Japanese bantams and Silkies.
